Design Commission – Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria

Design Commission for RBGV with Henry Buck Australia.

In 2013 Funky Wombat Textile was asked to design a range of prints for Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. The prints will be used to produce a range of fashion accessories for men and women and distributed by menswear business Henry Bucks Australia. Proceeds from the sale of the products will go towards  preserving the plant library located at the RBGV herbarium.

The motifs were created inspired by photographs and pressings from the RBGV herbarium. We used traditional artistic techniques, pencil and watercolour to create the motifs. The designs have then been digitally printed in Italy onto silk and wool and made into beautiful luxury accessories that include a scarf, tie, bowtie and pocket hanky.

” This is a rare opportunity to showcase some of our intriguing Australian marine flora” Tim Cecil, Managing Director of Henry Bucks said he felt honoured and excited about the collaboration with the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. ” Tamara’s adaptation of the stunning algae specimens were a natural fit to be printed onto silk and to be used in these beautiful accessories. We have worked closely with the Gardens and with top artisans in Como and Florence in Italy to create the collections I think the results are exquisite. “

The accessories will be available to purchase through Henry Bucks stores until sold.
