BEAUTIFUL ALGAE FOR INSPIRATION

In 2013 Tamara Design Co (Funky Wombat Textiles) was asked to design a range of prints for Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. The prints were used to produce a range of fashion accessories for men and women and were distributed by menswear retailer Henry Bucks Australia. Proceeds from the sale of the products went towards preserving the plant library located at the RBGV Herbarium.

The design motifs were inspired by photographs and pressings from the RBGV herbarium.  and traditional artistic techniques such as lead pencil and water-colour were used to create the motifs. The designs have then been digitally put into repeat and printed in Italy onto silk and wool to  be made into beautiful luxury accessories that include a scarf, tie, bow-tie and pocket hanky.

” This is a rare opportunity to showcase some of our intriguing Australian marine flora” Tim Cecil, Managing Director of Henry Bucks said he felt honoured and excited about the collaboration with the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. ” Tamara’s adaptation of the stunning algae specimens were a natural fit to be printed onto silk and to be used in these beautiful accessories. We have worked closely with the Gardens and with top artisans in Como and Florence in Italy to create the collections I think the results are exquisite. “

The accessories were available to purchase through Henry Bucks stores but are now sold out.
