HOW TO CALCULATE WALLPAPER QUANTITY

1. Measure the Wall

First, you will need to measure each wall that you want to paper. Measure the width and the height in cm or mm

Example:

Wall (A) 150cm width x 230cm height.
Wall (B) 180cm width x 230cm height.
Wall (C) 110cm width x 180cm height.

2. Combine Same Height Walls

If you have walls of the same heights you can add the widths together. If all your walls are different heights you will need to calculate each one individually.

Example:

Walls (A) and (B) are the same height so can be combined – 330cm x 220cm
Wall (C) 110cm x 180cm

3. Get Dividing

You can now divide your wall widths by your wallpaper width to work out how many drops you need.

Example:

Using a 70 cm wallpaper width

Wall (A&B) 330cm / 70cm = 4.71. Always round up = 5 drops.
Wall (C) 110cm / 70cm = 1.5. Always round up = 2 drops.

4. Multiply

Next you will need to multiply the number of drops by the wall height.

Example:

Wall (A&B): 5 drops x 230cm height = 1334cm
Wall (C): 2 drops x 180cm height = 360cm

5. Pattern Repeat

If you are using wallpaper that has no vertical pattern repeat head straight on to step 6. Otherwise, there is still a little more work to do!

To work out the pattern repeat allowance, you need to add a pattern repeat for each drop, apart from the first one.

Example:

Using a 38cm pattern repeat.

5 + 2 drops = 7 drops
7 drops – 1 = 6 pattern repeats required
6 x 38cm pattern repeat = 228cm

6. Add Your Totals Together

Add your totals together which will tell you the total meterage you require to cover your walls. Divide this by the roll length to work out how many rolls you need.

Example:

1334cm Wall (A&B) width + 360cm Wall (C) width + 242cm pattern repeat = 1936cm
1936cm / 1000cm (10 metres) = 1.93. You can’t buy part rolls, so always round this up
Total requirement = 2 rolls

What makes Non-Wovens different from paper

Higher strength
Better tear resistance, particularly when wet.
Are easier to cut, particularly when wet.
Deliver no seam separation on the wall.
Are easier to install and remove from the wall.
Much easier than paper – paste the wall not the paper.
Non-woven wall coverings have a thicker feel than paper and appear more textile-like in appearance.

INSTALLATION

NON-WOVEN WALL-COVERING HANGING INSTRUCTIONS

We advise that a professional be used when hanging non-woven wallpaper. The instructions can be found below:

Preparation:

Walls should be dry, clean, and even.
Remove any old wallpaper and loose paint.
Roughen painted surfaces with sandpaper.
For best results, walls should be cross lined using a good quality lining paper. Sizing the lining paper will aid adhesion. Lining should be allowed to dry out completely before hanging the wall covering.

PASTING AND HANGING YOUR NON-WOVEN WALL COVERINGS

This is a paste the wall product. The decorator should paste the wall and not the back of the wall covering.
A good quality, solvent free, fungicide protected ready-mixed ‘tub’ adhesive – specifically for paste the wall non-woven papers should be used.
Paste should be evenly applied to the wall to hang one length at a time, to an area slightly wider than width of the paper.
Butt joints and use a decorator’s brush to smooth down the wall covering, working from the centre to the edges to express air bubbles.
Avoid squeezing paste out of the joints and ensure paste does not get onto the brush or roller. No paste should be allowed to come into contact with the surface and hands should be kept clean and dry whilst hanging the wall covering.
Paste will damage the surface. The company cannot accept responsibility for marks or damage caused by paste.
Should any paste have been allowed to come into contact with the surface, it should be lightly sponged whilst still moist, using a clean damp sponge.

CARE INTRUCTIONS

Our coated non-woven wallpapers and vinyls are all “spongaeble”. Uncoated papers and specials such
as our rage of natural wall coverings should be cleaned by dusting with a clean dry brush or by
brush accessory on a vacuum cleaner.

SUITABILITY IN AREAS OF MOISTURE

Whilst our wallpapers are suited to most environments, applications in bathrooms and kitchens may
influence your choice of base paper. We recommend our vinyls and coated papers for such situations.
Another option is to apply a wallpaper varnish such as POLYVINE decorators' varnish.
It is important to test before application as it may affect colours.
